The building was constructed in 1927 to house the main administrative office of the Pomeranian Province. The land on which the office stands was purchased from the commercial counsellor Martin Quistorp. The building consists of three parts: the central, main office building and the eastern and western wings added in the following years, which surround a spacious courtyard. From 1933 to 1945, the Nazi NSDAP had its headquarters here. After the war, the building housed the seat of the City Board and the Municipal National Council, then successively: the seat of the Presidium of the Municipal National Council, the seat of the Municipal Office and the Municipal National Council, and since 1990 – the seat of the Szczecin City Hall.
